Artist statement
Santi Poza is a freelance photographer born in Spain but rooted in Guayaquil (Ecuador). He is currently developing a photo essay about tuberculosis in Latin America. In Ecuador at the University of Arts got a master's degree in Photography and Society in Latin America.
He is a History and Geography graduate from the University of Murcia (Spain) In 2008 he learned firsthand about photojournalism from Francesc Vera and 1999 World Press Photo winner in Arts and Entertainment, Tino Soriano. A year later he organized the first photo marathon of Trujillo city (Peru). At the end of 2009 had his baptism of photojournalism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Next stop was London where he studied professional photography in The Institute of Photography. After being selected for a new Peruvian magazine's photography staff and some photography workshops, he continued with the teaching initiated in Spain a few years before. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic beginning, made a number of street portraits in downtown Guayaquil. As the outbreak started to be under control, he decided to get back to town to search for those whom he had previously portraited. As a result of that work, he was honoured to be a part of the international exhibition about the COVID-19 crisis which was held at the ICP in New York. He has also approached the exodus of a migrant people and documented their imaginary: the Venezuelans.

Una muestra de mi trabajo
Estas imágenes pretenden ser una ventana a mi forma de ver el mundo desde que con solo 8 años empezase a hacer mis primeras fotos con una Instamatic de mi padre, autor de estas fotos en blanco y negro. Al principio las personas eran casi un anécdota en mis instantáneas pero esa falta de vida me llevó a interesarme por el fotoperiodismo. Es esta rama de la fotografía la que dispara al fotógrafo compulsivo que soy cuando viajo, ya sea en la ciudad o en la periferia donde hay otros mundos.
